Recommendations for Vegan Cookbooks

1) A good vegan cookbook: _The Joy of Cooking Naturally_ by Peggy Dameron.

"Additional copies may be obtained by writing:

The Joy of Cooking Naturally
P.O. Box 279
Harrisville, NH 03450 (USA)

"Please find convenient order coupons in back of book." [NOTE: said coupons say to send check or money order of $8.95 (plus $1.50 mailing and handling). I have no idea if the price is still the same in 1991.]

Copyright 1983 (this is a second edition, but no second copyright is listed). No publisher name given--I bought it in 1990 or 89 at the Country Life Restaurant in Boston.

The book has a Christian (I believe Seventh Day Adventist) focus. I am Jewish, but still like the recipes. They are completely vegan (but use honey) and "low-fat." The "low-fat" seems to have religious as well as health origins. It is in quotes because the recipes have lots of nuts.

You can also get Joy of Cooking Naturally from amazon.com

2) An excellent vegan cookbook giving normal-sized versions of the restaurant recipes. They are also Seventh Day Adventists and use no animal products (except honey) or vinegar (they do use yeast flakes). They are not low-fat fixated, but are concerned with health.

_Country Life Vegetarian Cookbook_
Delicious recipes from the kitchens of the Country Life vegetarian restaurants.
Edited by Diana J. Fleming
Family Health Publications
13062 Musgrove Highway
Sunfield, Michigan 48890
Copyright 1990, first printing.

I paid $9.95. The book seems to be the standard recipes for all the restaurants, but the picture on the front of the cookbook shows the Boston staff people (I recognize them).
